SANTA PAULA : Suspect Arrested in Burglary Is Youth Sought in Shooting

Santa Paula police arrested two burglary suspects Tuesday, including one who was also wanted on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with a drive-by shooting last week.

Both of the suspects are reputed gang members, Cmdr. Bob Gonzales said.

Officers received a call of a possible burglary in progress in the area of Corte Mira Flores and Via Pacifica about 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to a release prepared by Sgt. George Brink.

Upon the officers’ arrival, witnesses gave a description of the suspects’ vehicle, which was broadcast over the police radio.

Detectives a vehicle matching the description near Santa Anna Street and Palm Avenue and arrested the two occupants.

Juan Banos, 20, of Santa Paula, was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

A 15-year-old juvenile was also arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Police also held the juvenile on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the drive-by shooting Saturday night of John Julian Lopez, Gonzales said.

The juvenile was being held at Ventura County Juvenile Hall.

Banos was being held at County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
