The city will spend the majority of its 1993-94 federal block grant funds on development of a new senior citizens center and subsidies for housing rehabilitation under a plan approved by the City Council on Tuesday.
City officials anticipate receiving $463,000 in federal funds for the fiscal year beginning July 1, a 6% increase over the current year’s block grant funding.
In a 5-0 vote, the council agreed to set aside $189,090 for continuing work on a senior citizens center at Main Street and Stimson Avenue and $170,000 in grants and loans for improvements of substandard housing owned by low- and moderate-income residents.
The council also pledged $57,700 for a day-care program run by the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District.
