After-School Recreation Slated in La Palma
Students attending Los Coyotes and George B. Miller schools in La Palma can now stay and play after class and participate in sports activities.
The Centralia School District Board of Trustees on Tuesday approved an agreement to extend an agreement with Buena Park Recreation, Parks and Community Services to provide the supervised activities on the campuses.
The after-school program, Stay ‘n’ Play, is currently offered at the district’s five Buena Park schools. Between 50 and 80 children participate in the program at each of those schools.
The additional cost of the one-day a week, 16-week program at the La Palma schools is about $1,500, district officials said. The program will start next week and continue through May.
Wes Morgan, director of Recreation, Parks and Community Services, said the city currently has a contract for $6,300 to pay for the program.
Funds for the program are provided from the Drug-Free Schools and Tobacco Use Prevention Education Grants, Morgan said.
The supervised activities that will be offered include football, soccer, kickball and track and field sports.
