SOCCER ROUNDUP : Wilson’s Two Goals Lead Valencia Past No. 9 Anaheim

Ryan Wilson scored two goals to help unranked Valencia to a 3-2 victory over No. 9 Anaheim in an Orange League boys’ soccer game at Valencia.

Valencia improved to 4-6-4 and 4-3-2 in league.

Ed Escobar scored twice for Anaheim (19-3-4, 6-1-2), which dropped into second place in league.

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 1, Savanna 0--Robert Atherton scored a second-half goal for visiting Brea-Olinda (11-2-4, 6-0-3), which can clinch the league title if it defeats Magnolia Friday.

In the Century League:

Santa Ana Valley 2, Orange 0--Francisco Islas scored two second-half goals for Santa Ana Valley (20-3-1, 8-1-1), ranked second in the county.

Villa Park 2, Canyon 0--Jeff Szekeres and Sam Issacs scored for Villa Park (6-8-5, 3-3-4), which clinches third place with the victory.

El Modena 2, Foothill 1--Matt Young scored on a diving header with five minutes left to help El Modena (8-5-2, 5-2-2) to the victory and its fourth consecutive Southern Section playoff birth. Alex Mandel had given the Vanguards a 1-0 lead midway through the second half with a bicycle-kick shot from about seven-yards out. Lars Vreeland tied the score five minutes later for host Foothill (10-10-3, 2-7-1).

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 1, Cypress 0--Dennis Darden scored for El Dorado (13-5-5, 6-1-2), which must beat league-leader Esperanza Friday to win a share of the league title.

Esperanza 4, Loara 0--Yancy Knox, Peter Schumerth, Greg Massey and Herman Alvarado scored for Esperanza (13-2-5, 7-0-2).

Katella 2, Los Alamitos 2--With 10 minutes remaining, Katella’s Mike Rubio scored on a free kick to tie the score.

In Freeway League boys’ soccer:

La Habra 1, Sonora 0--Hugo Estrella scored 20 minutes into the second half for La Habra (10-6-4, 5-3-1).

David Sciabica had nine saves for the Highlanders, who are in third place. Oscar Sepulveda had six saves for Sonora (13-6-4, 5-2-2), which is in second.

Sunny Hills 4, Troy 1--Chris Roselli had two goals and two assists for host Sunny Hills (11-6-3, 7-0-2), which clinched the league championship. D.J. Buckley and Doug Howes also scored for the Lancers.

In the Garden Grove League:

Garden Grove 3, Bolsa Grande 0--Mark Hastings, Jason Hospedales and Christian Jara scored for Garden Grove (12-4-2, 8-3-2).

Kennedy 2, La Quinta 0--Ryan Bean scored goals 15 seconds into the game and in the second half for visiting Kennedy (12-4-3, 8-4-1). Bean now has 27 goals this season.

Pacifica 2, Los Amigos 0--Ron Yoast had a goal and an assist and Matt Barclay had one goal for visiting Pacifica (10-2-1 in league), which remained a half-game behind first-place Santiago. Justin McAnear had seven saves to post his 10th league-shutout.

Santiago 4, Rancho Alamitos 2--Anthony Rodriguez scored four goals for first-place Santiago (13-3-2, 11-1-1), which can clinch the league title with a victory Friday at Kennedy.

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 2, Whittier Christian 1--Dale Huss scored with 20 minutes remaining for visiting Orange Lutheran (9-4-2, 6-2-1). Derek Beard scored for Whittier Christian (8-8-2, 4-3-2).

In the Sea View League:

Santa Margarita 3, Tustin 0--Goalkeeper Matt Reis made two saves to record his 18th shutout of the season for the county’s No. 1-ranked team, Santa Margarita (20-1-3, 9-1-3).

Corona del Mar 4, Irvine 2--Jason Boyce, Dustin Lee and Bill Rimmer scored for Corona del Mar (20-1-6, 8-1-4). Boyce, a junior forward, had two goals in the game. Joe Ly and Justin McCauley scored for Irvine (5-12-6, 1-10-2).

Saddleback 6, Woodbridge 2--Juan Arreola scored two goals in the first half as Saddleback (16-4-2, 9-2-2) took a 3-0 lead at the half.

Newport Harbor 5, University 0--Chris Hunter and Jim Hicks each scored two goals and Alessio Smith scored one for host Newport Harbor (6-8-7, 4-4-5). Hicks has scored 13 goals this season, giving him 31 for his career breaking the school-record of 30 set by Garth Tamblyn from ‘86-’87.

In the South Coast League:

San Clemente 3, El Toro 0--Miklos Rosas, Gus Garcia and Jose Flores scored for San Clemente (15-2-4, 7-0-2), which wrapped up its first league title in 16 years.

Mater Dei 3, Capistrano Valley 2--Kevin Quigley, Matt Thomas and Rudy Gomez scored for host Mater Dei (11-3-8, 4-2-3).

In the Sunset League:

Servite 4, Fountain Valley 2--Scott Cutshall scored four goals, including three in the first half, for host Servite (11-7-3, 6-6-1).
