Share

A disaster loan center will be opened here on Monday by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the state’s Office of Emergency Services for South County residents and business owners.

The center is at the Amanecer Industrial Complex, at 1015 Calle Amanecer. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day through Feb. 21, said Cory LaBianca, a spokeswoman for FEMA. The center is one of 15 across the state set up this month to help the victims of floods and landslides caused by recent storms. The federal government is offering, among other programs, low-interest loans of up to $100,000 for damaged houses and $20,000 for personal property losses.

Other financial programs include federal grants up to $11,900, unemployment payments for workers who temporarily lost their jobs because of the disasters and low-interest business loans of up to $500,000.

“We encourage anyone with any kind of damage to come in and apply even if they’re not sure that they may qualify for relief,” LaBianca said.
