Duarte : New Rules for Landscaping

Share

The City Council on Tuesday set new landscaping guidelines for developers to minimize water use.

The ordinance, prompted by a 1990 state water conservation law, aims to increase use of sprinkler systems that minimize over-spray onto pavements.

Developers will be required to submit a design plan for city approval. A $200 fee will cover the cost of city staff time to check the plans for compliance with the new standards.

Parks, golf courses and schools will not be affected, and private homeowners providing their own landscaping will also be exempted. The ordinance takes effect in 30 days.
