LOS ANGELES : Woman, 65, Fatally Beaten at Home; Intruder Seized

A 22-year-old intruder was booked on suspicion of murder Wednesday morning after he beat a 65-year-old woman to death in her apartment in the Rampart area, Los Angeles police said.

LAPD Detective Steve Sena said that the woman’s husband, who was returning home from work, met the building manager and a neighbor in a hallway outside the apartment at 945 S. Beacon Ave. after the manager was notified of a disturbance.

Sena said that the three men entered the apartment to find the suspect, Jose Ismar Ramirez, attacking the bleeding victim, who was lying on the floor. The detective said the three men overpowered Ramirez, who was turned over to police and later booked on suspicion of murder.

The victim, who was not identified pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the nearby Hospital of the Good Samaritan. Sena said the motive for the attack was not immediately determined.
