Share

The Ventura County Board of Supervisors voted 4 to 0 Tuesday to apply for a $960,000 federal grant to benefit Casa Pacifica, a shelter in Camarillo for abused and neglected children.

The grant would pay for $710,000 in furniture and equipment and $250,000 worth of work to widen Lewis Road near the shelter building. Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley) secured money for the grant through his work with the House Appropriations Committee.

Funded by a combination of county and private money, Casa Pacifica, when complete, will house 60 children ranging in age from infancy to 17. It is designed to provide medical care, education and mental health assistance for the children.
