Heavyweight Michael Moorer, ranked No. 2 by the World Boxing Assn., remained in the title picture by winning a 10-round unanimous decision over James (Bonecrusher) Smith on Saturday at Atlantic City, N.J.

Moorer, 31-0 with 28 knockouts, landed several left crosses during the final three rounds. The 25-year-old left-hander also cut Smith’s bottom lip during the ninth round and had him wobbling in the final minute of the fight.

“I’m with new trainers (George Benton and Lou Duva) who are teaching me to move my head more and avoid punches,” Moorer said. “I’ve gotten many knockouts, but I always got hit a lot. I was comfortable with the new style, but I couldn’t cut loose the way I wanted to. He always tied me up.”

Smith, 33-11-1 with 26 knockouts, held the WBA title in 1986 and was fighting for the first time since a decision loss to Greg Page last June.
