Peter Stastny’s power-play goal with 11:09 to play gave the New Jersey Devils a 6-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at East Rutherford, N.J., on Sunday night.

“Peter can step it up, and he did tonight,” said Herb Brooks, the Devils’ coach. “Peter has a lot of pride. You’re looking at a future Hall of Famer, no doubt about it. Peter will give us a great run the next six weeks.”

Earlier in the day, the Devils learned that center Bernie Nicholls, a former King, will be sidelined for at least four weeks because of a broken left foot.
