COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Brown Runs Record to 4-0 in Mission Victory

Right-hander Josh Brown scattered nine hits to pitch Mission to a 9-5 victory over Cerro Coso in a Southern California Athletic Conference baseball opener Tuesday at El Cariso Park. Brown improved to 4-0 with a complete-game effort. Raul Flores provided the offense support with three hits, including two doubles and three runs batted in. Marlon McKinney was two for four with three RBIs.

Mission is 10-3 on the season.

College of the Canyons 3, Santa Barbara 2--R.J. Simone pitched a complete game, striking out nine and walking one, to improve to 3-0.

Keith Halcovich (two RBIs) and Chris Pfatenhauer (two runs scored) each had two hits.

Glendale 2, Oxnard 1--Oxnard collected 11 hits but stranded 13 baserunners in a Western State Conference game at home.

Glendale improved to 3-2 in conference play while Oxnard is 2-7, 0-3 in WSC games.

Valley 6, Ventura 3--Sophomore right-hander Jason Ignacio allowed one run in six innings to lead visiting Valley to victory in WSC play.

Center fielder Arnold Settles went two for five with two RBIs for Valley, which improved to 4-6-1 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play. Willie Rivera pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings to earn his second save.

Mike Muncy hit his first homer for Ventura (1-2 in conference games).

Moorpark 2, Santa Monica 1--A two-out run-producing single by Steve Bernstein broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth and lifted the Raiders to a WSC victory.

Moorpark is 5-5, 2-1 in conference play.
