LITTLEROCK : Passerby Rescues Woman From Fire
An elderly Littlerock woman was rescued from her burning home by a Pearblossom man passing by, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said Wednesday.
Ofelia Ponder, 91, had attempted to light a wall heater Tuesday afternoon in her home in the 10300 block of East Avenue R-8 when a gas flame shot across the room and ignited a chair, deputies said.
Jessie Sanchez, 23, was driving by the house with a friend when they noticed the fire and smoke.
Sanchez smashed the front window, went into the house and carried Ponder to safety. Ponder was transported to Palmdale Hospital Medical Center and was later released.
Damage to the structure and contents was estimated at $55,000.
