ALBANY, Calif. —
Russell Baze rode Frank Musso to a three-length victory Wednesday at Golden Gate Fields, becoming the 23rd jockey to win 4,000 races.
“It’s nice I joined the higher ranks,” said Baze, who last year led United States jockeys in victories. “I’m happy. A guy has to be awfully lucky. I’ve never really had any career-threatening injuries.”
Bill Shoemaker is horse racing’s all-time winningest rider with 8,833 victories.
