Ken Schrader broke the Richmond International Raceway qualifying record in winning the pole position for Sunday’s Pontiac Excitement 400. Schrader, earning the 12th pole of his NASCAR Winston Cup career and his first on a short track, turned a fast lap of 123.164 m.p.h. That easily surpassed the mark of 122.850 set by Davey Allison in September 1988.
