SOUTH-CENTRAL : Shuttle Bus Lines Begin New Service
In an effort to improve public transportation in South-Central Los Angeles, two DASH shuttle buses began limited service last week along a six-mile route that connects with RTD lines.
The new transportation comes after a yearlong campaign by Councilwoman Rita Walters to expand public transportation in the 9th District, which has one of the highest bus riderships in the county, according to the RTD.
“There is a critical need in the communities that I represent for DASH shuttles and other transportation programs, such as the taxi scrip, that can assist people in getting around,” Walters said.
The service, which began Wednesday, operates from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
The route starts at 55th and Alameda streets and runs west along 55th Street to Central Avenue. From there, it travels north to 51st Street, west to Main Street, and south to Slauson Avenue and west to Vermont Avenue. At Vermont Avenue, the service moves north to 51st Street, east to Hoover Street, then north to Vernon Avenue. The final leg of the shuttle goes east on Vernon Avenue and connects with the Metro Blue Line station at Vernon Avenue and Alameda Street. The buses run about every 35 minutes.
