A Lancaster man died after he was shot outside a bank by a gunman who escaped in the victim’s car, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Saturday.

Hans Christian Herzog, 46, died about 10 p.m. Friday at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center, said Deputy Irma Becerra.

Herzog was shot about 6:20 a.m. Friday after using an automated teller machine at a Bank of America branch at 730 W. Lancaster Blvd., deputies said.

“He finished his transaction and returned to his car, at which time he was accosted and shot,” she said.

The gunman then drove off in Herzog’s gray, two-door Honda Civic hatchback with California plates 1AJP220, Becerra said.

Anyone with information about the crime or the whereabouts of the car is urged to call Detective John Haynes at (213) 974-4341.
