VIEWPOINT MIGHTY DUCK LETTERS : Will Team Be Mickey Mouse or More of a Magic Kingdom?

The absurd notion that Anaheim’s hockey team could be called the Mighty Ducks should have been crushed long before the idea was allowed to hatch.

Apparently, the hockey team is going to be nothing more than a marketing tool to help promote Disneyland and Disney products. Disneyland itself will be known as Disneyland West, while the hockey arena will be called Disneyland East.

If Mr. Eisner is going to call his team the Mighty Ducks, he might as well call them the Mighty Cream Puffs and suit them up in pink.

Mr. Eisner would not get away with this in great sports cities like New York, Detroit, Chicago or Boston. Only in Southern California could a name like the Mighty Ducks be given consideration.

What’s next? Is someone going to move the Dallas Mavericks to Anaheim?
