From Associated Press

The North Stars returned home to Minnesota on Saturday night, but that doesn’t figure to be home much longer. This is a team with one skate out the door, poised to bolt for Dallas next season.

The fans know it and they expressed their anger loudly and clearly at the Met Center, where the North Stars took on the Montreal Canadiens.

Mike Modano had a goal and three assists to lead Minnesota to a 4-3 victory.

But that did little to appease the hostile crowd.

The North Stars, coming off an 0-3-1 trip, were home for the first time since owner Norm Green solidified plans to relocate. He is expected to announce the deal next week.

On several occasions, when Met Center’s organist tried leading cheers, the sellout crowd of 15,184 instead chanted a vulgar phrase that included Green’s name.

Patrick Roy, Montreal’s All-Star goalie, left because of a strained hip flexor in the first period.

Tampa Bay 7, Calgary 4--The expansion Lightning struck for the three fastest consecutive goals in its history, over a 1:43 span of the first period at Tampa, en route to matching its high in goals.

Adam Creighton scored once and added two assists and Chris Kontos had three assists for the Lightning.

The Flames, playing without injured left wing Gary Roberts, lost for the third consecutive time.

Boston, 4, St. Louis 3--Bruin defenseman Glen Wesley wasted little time redeeming himself for a costly mistake at Boston.

Wesley, whose poor pass led to a Blues goal with 4:25 to play in the third period, tied the score with 58 seconds remaining and then assisted on Ray Bourque’s overtime winner.

Bourque scored on a power-play blast from barely inside the blue line with 21 seconds to play in overtime.

Quebec 10, N.Y. Rangers 2--Joe Sakic had two goals and two assists at Quebec to lead the Nordiques into a tie for second place in the overall NHL standings.

Defenseman Steve Duchesne added two goals and one assist.

Hartford 5, Vancouver 1--Goalie Sean Burke made 35 saves and Andrew Cassels scored two power-play goals 71 seconds apart at Hartford to help the Whalers end a four-game home losing streak.

Toronto 4, Winnipeg 2--The Maple Leafs, coming off a 5-1 loss to Detroit on Friday night that ended their 10-game unbeaten streak, got back in the win column at Toronto.

Jet defenseman Randy Carlyle scored his first goal of the season to get his 500th career point.
