Dick Tarrant, architect of the biggest upset in the modern history of the NCAA basketball tournament, has retired. Tarrant, 62, was coach at the University of Richmond for 12 seasons.

In the first round of the 1991 East Regionals at College Park, Md., the Spiders upset seventh-ranked Syracuse, 73-69, the only time a 15th seeded team has beaten a second-seeded team in the NCAA tournament.
