From Associated Press

It has been a little more than a month since the Toronto Maple Leafs obtained Dave Andreychuk in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres.

Sixteen games, to be exact.

The Maple Leafs had to give up goalie Grant Fuhr, but they’ve received plenty in return.

Sixteen goals, to be exact.

Andreychuk scored his 44th and 45th goals of the season Wednesday night at Toronto to lead the Maple Leafs to a 5-3 victory over the Hartford Whalers.

That keeps Andreychuk on a goal-a-game pace since the Maple Leafs obtained him, along with goalie Daren Puppa.

Buffalo 7, Quebec 4--The Sabres can boast of having both the league’s top goal-scorer in Alexander Mogilny and the top point-producer in Pat LaFontaine.

And both added to their totals at Quebec.

Mogilny scored his 66th and 67th goals and LaFontaine collected five points to give him 125, including 45 goals.

Bill Houlder, playing his first NHL game this season, also scored two goals for Buffalo.

Montreal 5, N.Y. Islanders 1--Goalie Andre Racicot made 42 saves at Montreal as the Canadiens won their first game without ailing Coach Jacques Demers.

Assistant General Manager Jacques Lemaire was behind the bench to replace Demers, who was in a hospital for observation after developing chest pains on Tuesday.

The loss ended a five-game winning streak for the Islanders.

Detroit 6, Edmonton 3--Steve Yzerman scored his 50th goal of the season and added three assists at Edmonton. It was the fifth time the Detroit center has hit the 50-goal mark in his 10 years in the league.
