Gala at Four Seasons Benefits Aviva Center

Aviva Center held its “Celebration of the Spirit” gala Jan. 27 at the Four Seasons. The event honored actresses Marlee Matlin and Sharon Stone and Aviva Center past president Beryl Geber. Proceeds of $125,000 will provide support for the center’s intensive therapy program for abused and abandoned teen-agers.

Southern California Counseling Center’s Feb. 27 black-tie gala at the Regent Beverly Wilshire netted $50,000. Singer Eddie Fisher was honoree. In addition to its many other programs, the center has received national acclaim for its successful domestic violence treatment program. Mitch Jacobs was the evening’s chair.

Variety--The Children’s Charity of Southern California honored Mayor Tom Bradley and his wife Ethel at its Feb. 14 black-tie gala at the Beverly Hilton. Net proceeds of $80,000 will help support disabled, underprivileged and abused children. Nine-year-old Michael Seale, Variety’s poster child, was also honored.

Boys and Girls Club of Venice has received a $100,000 grant from the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation to help fund its $2.2-million building campaign. The new facility, to be built at the club’s present site at 2232 Lincoln Blvd., will accommodate double the number of children it now serves.

Alzheimer’s Assn. has announced receipt of $35,000 from the Mr. & Mrs. Club of San Fernando Valley. Funds will provide assistance to Alzheimer’s patients, families and care-givers.

Los Angeles Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America honored Richard K. Eamer at a benefit luncheon Jan. 12 at the Century Plaza. Net proceeds of more than $60,000 will help fund inner-city scouting programs.

Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America, Los Angeles Chapter, announced receipt of $100,000 raised at its “Wind Beneath Our Wings” benefit dinner and auction at the Regent Beverly Wilshire. Proceeds will support sports clinics and summer camp for asthmatic children.

Assistance League of Southern California has announced receipt of a $250,000 grant from the W. M. Keck Foundation in support of the league’s $8-million capital campaign for the construction of a new family resource center. The new facility will serve more than 5,000 needy children, families and elderly people each year.

Torrance Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary announced donation of a fourth installment of more than $200,000 toward its $1-million, 5-year pledge to the Torrance Memorial Health Care Foundation. The money was raised through a gift shop, baby photos and sales of baked goods throughout the year.

Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House and Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times received $12,000 from the Southern California Area Council of Alpha Delta Pi. The money was raised at a benefit luncheon at the Wilshire Country Club.

American Lupus Society held its first fund-raiser Dec. 12 at the Universal Sheraton. Actor Vincent Spano was guest speaker. The more than $27,000 netted will provide research for lupus erythematosus, a chronic, inflammatory autoimmune disease.
