South Bay residents familiar with Chez Melange’s reputation for tasty and imaginative dinners can take advantage of its traditional good cooking at a much lower price during their weekday breakfasts.

From 7 to 11:15 a.m. you can order two eggs any style for just $3.75--not the high prices you’d

expect for a restaurant attached to the Palos Verdes Inn. But even better than the reasonable price are all the accompaniments, such as the breakfast breads, muffins and scones made daily by the pastry chef.

The eggs also come with breakfast potatoes, whose plain name belies their uncommon form and flavor. After being sliced into thin sheets and cooked, the potato is bathed in a rich cheese and paprika sauce. Homemade bread pudding and toast finish the egg meals.

Another highlight is the apple wood-smoked Wisconsin bacon. Chez Melange also serves ham, turkey jalapeno sausage and chorizo (Mexican sausage).

Besides the chorizo, there are other Mexican touches--a breakfast burrito and Huevos California (fried eggs, corn tortillas, salsa, jack cheese and black beans).

A rich but tasty dish is Eggs Wolferman, a Wolferman English muffin covered with a poached egg, crab meat, avocado and bearnaise sauce for $7.95.

For those who prefer a lighter breakfast, fresh fruits, Swiss muesli and cereals are served. Oatmeal comes with brown sugar and steamed or chilled milk.

Breakfast is served Monday through Friday, and similarly priced items are available on the Saturday and Sunday brunch menus.
