A Book on Sumo
Readers who want more information about sumo (“Fat City,” Feb. 21), should head for the library and check out “Grand Sumo: The Living Sport & Tradition” by Lora Sharnoff, published by Weatherhill Inc. After graduating from Hollywood High School in 1965 (where we were classmates), Sharnoff studied Japanese literature at Barnard College. She went to Japan in the early 1970s on a Fulbright scholarship and has lived there ever since. She has become a recognized expert on sumo, even among the Japanese.
