COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UCI’s Christensen Wins USD Invitational

Mike Christensen shot a final-round 71 to win the individual championship by two strokes and lead UC Irvine to fifth place at the University of San Diego golf invitational Tuesday at the Stardust Country Club.

In the second round of the 54-hole tournament, Christensen shot a 73 Tuesday to lead the Anteaters to a tournament-low round of 299. The Anteaters finished four shots behind champion Cal State Sacramento. Tim Hart of Irvine finished eighth at 228.

CS Dominguez Hills 12, Chapman 9--Chris Briones had two home runs and four RBIs to lead Chapman (11-13).

In Golden State Athletic Conference softball:

Southern California College 5-1, Azusa Pacific 0-0--Shannon Saylor and Beth Howard pitched two-hitters for SCC (16-6-2, 5-1).

In Big West Conference women’s tennis:

Hawaii 6, UC Irvine 3--Gina Garcia won at No 2. singles for Irvine (3-9, 2-3), 6-0, 6-1.

In nonconference women’s tennis:

Cal State Fullerton 9, Colorado State 0--Roseann Alva, who won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, led host Fullerton.
