Titans’ Powell, Silva Honored by Big West

Dante Powell, Cal State Fullerton outfielder, was named Big West Conference player of the week Tuesday, and Titan pitcher Ted Silva was selected as the conference’s pitcher of the week.

Powell, a sophomore, batted .412 for the week. He had two home runs, seven RBIs and scored eight runs. Powell drove in all four runs in Fullerton’s 4-3 victory over UC Santa Barbara on Friday.

Silva, a freshman right-hander, was 1-0 with one save in three appearances. He struck out eight and didn’t allow a run in five innings pitched. In his last five outings, he has thrown 6 2/3 scoreless innings and hasn’t allowed a hit.

Fullerton (11-7) plays host to Cal State Northridge at 7 tonight.
