If Dale Brown doesn’t mind, Jason Kidd will see for himself if he really has no chance against Bobby Hurley.

“I just can’t wait for tomorrow,” Kidd said Friday as he and California prepared to meet Hurley and Duke during the second round of the NCAA Midwest Regional.

Kansas (26-6) will play Brigham Young (25-8) at Rosemont, Ill., before Cal (20-8) meets Duke (24-7).

Only minutes after Kidd’s last-second spinning layup defeated Louisiana State in Thursday’s opening-round game, Brown, LSU’s outspoken coach, said the point-guard matchup between Kidd and Hurley wouldn’t be much of a match at all.

“Hurley’s a better offensive player. Jason’s a good deliverer of the ball, but he’s not a very good shooter,” Brown said. “And Bobby’s a better defensive player.”

Santa Clara (19-11) will continue its improbable run against Temple (18-12) in the West Regional at Salt Lake City. Thursday night, Santa Clara stunned Arizona, 64-61, in one of the biggest upsets in NCAA tournament history. It was only the second time a 15th-seeded team defeated a second-seeded team.

In the other West game, Vanderbilt (27-5) will play Illinois (19-12).

Top-seeded North Carolina (29-4) will plays Rhode Island (19-10) in the East Regional at Winston-Salem, N.C. The other game matches Arkansas (21-8) against St. John’s (19-10).

Second-seeded Seton Hall (28-6) will play seventh-seeded Western Kentucky (25-5) in the second round of the Southeast Regional at Orlando, Fla. In the second game, Florida State (23-9) will play Tulane (22-8).
