SANTA ANITA : Kotashaan Heads Field for San Luis Rey

Kotashaan, who won the San Luis Obispo Handicap by seven lengths last month, was among six horses entered Friday morning for the $264,750 San Luis Rey Stakes at Santa Anita on Sunday.

Trained by Richard Mandella, Kotashaan, a 5-year-old bred in France, is the probable morning-line favorite. He will again be ridden by Kent Desormeaux.

Before the San Luis Obispo, Kotashaan was second to Star Of Cozzene in the San Marcos Handicap.

Bien Bien, fourth in the San Marcos in his first start of the year, will race with Lasix for the first time on Sunday.

The others entered are Jahafil, who won the San Marino Handicap by six lengths in his American debut; Marquetry, Fast Cure and Misty Valley. All starters in the San Luis Rey will carry 124 pounds.

Guiza, third behind Southern Truce and Paseana in the Santa Margarita, is the 2-1 morning-line favorite to win today’s feature, the $81,300 Santa Lucia Handicap at 1 1/16 miles on the dirt.

Six other fillies and mares are entered: Local Lass, Terre Haute, Elegance, Lovely Habit, Interactive and Looie Capote.
