Teemu Selanne is one point away from tying the NHL rookie points record after scoring twice during the Winnipeg Jets’ 4-2 victory over the Calgary Flames at Winnipeg on Sunday.

With the Jets playing their next three games at home, Selanne is poised to break the record before a home crowd this week.

Selanne scored his 64th and 65th goals during the first period to give him 108 points in his chase of the 109 by Quebec’s Peter Stastny in 1980-81.

“I don’t want to think about that--when it comes, it comes,” said Selanne, who broke Mike Bossy’s rookie goals record when he scored his 54th before the home fans on March 2.

Pittsburgh 6, Edmonton 4--Mario Lemieux and Kevin Stevens each scored at Richfield, Ohio, to reach 50 goals apiece as the Penguins extended their winning streak to six games. Lemieux is on a torrid streak with nine goals and three assists in his last three games. With 50 goals and 74 assists, Lemieux trails Buffalo’s Pat LaFontaine for the league scoring lead by seven points, even though he has played 23 fewer games because of his bout with Hodgkin’s disease.

Chicago 3, Tampa Bay 2--Dave Christian broke a second-period tie at Chicago with only his fourth goal of the season as the Blackhawks held on to first place in the Norris Division by a single point.

New Jersey 3, Philadelphia 2--Stephane Richer’s goal with 6:52 remaining in the third period led the Devils at Philadelphia.

The Devils, who had lost five of their last six heading into the game, moved into third place in the Patrick Division by a point over the idle New York Rangers.

Detroit 6, Minnesota 2--Dallas Drake had a short-handed goal and an assist at Bloomington, Minn., and the Red Wings set a team record for goals in a season.
