Percy Eberhart, who was illegally recruited by South Carolina in 1991 and suspended from Anderson College’s team this season, died after collapsing during a pick-up game in Anderson, S.C.

Eberhart, 20, died at Anderson Area Medical Center after going into cardiac arrest, Anderson College President Mark Hopkins said. He said doctors indicated that Eberhart died of a “congenital heart defect.”

Hopkins said the 6-foot-9 Eberhart and about a dozen other men were playing on campus when Eberhart collapsed. He was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later.
