BUILD BRIDGES: A major Japanese publishing house today will donate a 7,000-book collection of contemporary Japanese literature to UC Irvine. . . . “To dissolve the kind of friction that exists between our countries, students need to learn about Japanese politics, economics and culture,” says author Minoru Omori, a 1991 UCI Regent’s Professor who persuaded Kodansha Ltd. to make the $150,000 gift. “The collection we chose is the best, most contemporary about Japan today.”
