WORDS AND IMAGES : Flagg’s Salute : Author of ‘Fried Green Tomatoes’ will keynote a Girl Scout event honoring Ella D. Williams as a Woman of Distinction.

Actress/novelist/screenwriter Fannie Flagg of Santa Barbara, whose best-selling novel “Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe” became 1992’s surprise big hit movie, will keynote the Tres Condados Girl Scout Council’s Women of Distinction luncheon.

The event will honor Ella D. Williams of Camarillo, president of Aegir Systems, a computer service she founded in 1981. Williams has recently been chosen to serve on the White House Conference on Small Business Commission.

Two other women who will be recognized for outstanding achievement are Karen Ramsdell, Santa Barbara airport director, and Kathleen Goddard-Jones, 85, a San Luis Obispo environmentalist. The luncheon is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Harbortown Marina Resort, Ventura. Call 564-4848 for reservations.

Master storyteller and ethno-botanist Ane Rovetta will once again weave her magic American Indian tales about “the old days” of the West when animals, plants and rocks could communicate. The family-oriented evening, sponsored by the Ventura Parks and Recreation Department, is scheduled from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday in the Ventura City Hall atrium, 501 Poli St. The fee is $7 for adults and $4 for children 7 to 12. There is no charge for children under 7.

Rovetta will also conduct a special all-day workshop at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Arroyo Verde Nature Center. Educators, librarians, docents, group leaders and others interested in spicing up their presentations to any kind of audience will learn how to give life to legends and lore through the use of voice, sounds and movement. The workshop concludes at a storytelling session around a campfire from 6 to 9:30 p.m. The $30 registration fee includes lunch.

Bilingual poet Marisela Norte and award-winning playwright Luis Alfaro will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at Cafe Inlakech, 644 S. C St., Oxnard. Norte’s work, produced by New Alliance Records, is available on cassettes and CDs. Alfaro, whose poems and short stories appear in literary journals, is a member of the Mark Taper Forum Mentor Playwrights Program.

Children ages 6 to 10 who have library cards are invited to spend an afternoon spinning old and new folk and fairy tales from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday in the Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 E. Janss Road. Call 497-6282.

Celebrate the month of shamrocks with Dane Baylis and some old-fashioned Irish storytelling and dancing at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Prueter Library, 510 Park Ave., Port Hueneme. Wear green or orange and your dancing clogs.
