Reed to Compete in Track for UCLA

Marcus Reed, the 1992 Western State Conference champion for Valley College in the men’s 100 and 200 meters, will continue his collegiate track career at UCLA this season.
Reed, who also placed second in the long jump in the WSC championships, completed the requirements for his Associate of Arts degree at Valley last fall before choosing UCLA over USC.
The former Canoga Park High standout has personal bests of 10.33 seconds in the 100, 20.75 in the 200 and 24 feet 11 inches in the long jump.
*Basketball
Nicole Ellis of Ventura College has received honorable mention on the Kodak All-American junior college team.
Ellis, a 6-foot sophomore center from Buena High, averaged 18.3 points and 11.5 rebounds during the regular season. She helped the Pirates advance to the semifinals of the state championships.
* Baseball
The Western State Conference game between Pierce and Ventura colleges was postponed Thursday because of rain and has been rescheduled for Wednesday at Ventura.
* Swimming
Rebecca Gilman, competing for Buenaventura Swim Club, finished third in the women’s 200-yard freestyle event at the Junior Nationals West swim meet at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach. Alycia Ladd of Tacoma, Wash., won the event in 1:49.55. Joy Stover (1:50.52) of Lawrence, Kan., was second. Gilman finished in 1:50.90.
*Motor Racing
The USAC Midget/TQ Midget practice session at Ventura Raceway scheduled for Saturday has been postponed because of rain until next Friday.
Pits will open at 5 p.m. and practice will begin at 7.
Opening night of USAC Racing at Ventura Raceway is April 3.
