Neil Barth’s new Excel 53, Persuasion, of the host Newport Harbor Yacht Club, averaged only 6.5 knots but was first to finish and won the IMS-A class of a slow, light-wind race to Cabo San Lucas. Persuasion’s time was 5 days 3 hours 59 minutes 45 seconds.
Among the ULDB 70s that started a day later last weekend, John DeLaura’s Silver Bullet, of Waikiki YC, finished 38 minutes ahead of Doug Mongeon’s Swiftsure III, of Dana West YC, in 4:20:06:08.
