COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titans Lose on Late Homer
Washington’s Tami Storseth hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh to give the Huskies a 1-0 victory over Cal State Fullerton in a pool play game of the Pony Softball tournament Friday at Fullerton.
Storseth’s home run was the only hit Titan pitcher Tiffany Boyd (7-7) allowed. Fullerton fell to 14-12 and has lost both of its Pool A games this week. The Titans’ final pool play game with Western Illinois finished late Friday.
Tournament championship play begins today at 10:30 a.m. with the quarterfinals following at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday.
In pool play of the Cal State Hayward softball tournament:
Chapman 2, UC Davis 0--Viki Vechinski gave up five hits and struck out six for Chapman (13-12) in its upset of fifth-ranked Davis. Wendy Clemens had three hits including a home run.
Vicky Cavadias had three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs in Chapman’s 10-4 victory over Cal State Chico in the Panthers’ first game. Deann Ford (7-5) earned the victory.
