FULLERTON : Schools’ Hot Line Aims to Fight Crime

In response to increasing campus crime, the Fullerton Joint Union High School District has established a toll-free phone line for people to report weapons, explosives, drugs, tagging or other illegal activities at district schools.

“There have been so many more occurrences of violence in Orange County around schools this year,” said Shirley Finton at the superintendent’s office.

This school year, the district has expelled two students for taking guns to school, two who had explosives, two who had knives, and two more who had a look-alike BB gun, Finton said.

Finton would not describe the type of explosives the students were expelled for.

During the last school year, only two students were expelled for weapons. One had a gun and the other a knife, she said.

People may call 1 (800) 924-SAFE to report dangerous activity to the district. They will not be asked to leave their names.

The district will alert the principal of the school involved.

Boxes into which students may put anonymous notes will also be placed at all schools, the district said.
