Kevin Schwantz overcame a poor start and a challenge from three-time world champion Wayne Rainey to win the Australian Grand Prix 500cc motorcycle race at Sydney.
Schwantz won in 46 minutes 21.885 seconds. In the 250cc class, Japan’s Tetsuya Harada won by a split second over John Kocinski of the United States.
