Kamal Hassan Aly, 72, a former Egyptian prime minister and army general who played a key role in peace negotiations with Israel. Aly headed the Egyptian Intelligence Service from 1975 to 1978, served as minister of defense and military production from 1978-80 under President Anwar Sadat, was foreign minister from 1980 to 1984 and prime minister from 1984 to 1985.
