SILVERADO CANYON : Proceeds to Go for Fire Station Gear

Silverado Canyon volunteer firefighters will hold an Easter pancake breakfast in an effort to raise money to replace equipment lost during last year’s blaze at their fire station.

Though the county plans to rebuild the badly damaged station later this year, volunteer firefighters must purchase some of the equipment that was destroyed in the fire.

About $800 in supplies and cash was raised earlier this year at a chili cookout attended by more than 400 residents of the mountain community. The money went to buy flashlights, bags and other items for the fire station.

Construction of a new station has yet to begin, so firefighters continue to work out of a large metal shelter.

Bob Schrowe, pastor at the Silverado Community Church, said that despite the temporary quarters, “Station 14 is back in full swing. They’re responding to calls. We are very fortunate to have a fire company like this one.”

The pancake breakfast will take place from 7 a.m. to noon Sunday at the U.S. Forest Service Station on Silverado Canyon Road.

An Easter egg hunt and Easter bonnet contest will also be held.

The cost is $3 for adults and $2 for children under 12. For more information, call (714) 649-2812.
