Message to Parents: Network stars including Telma Hopkins (“Getting By”), Ivory Ocean (“Key West”), Mary Jo Keenen (“Nurses”) and Rae Van Kelly (“I’ll Fly Away”) are taking part in a PBS production aimed at getting out the message that it’s “time for parents to become more involved in the education of their children.” Called “Count on Me,” the one-hour prime-time special combines comedy, drama, music, animation and real-life vignettes. Latins Anonymous co-founder Diane Rodriguez and film actor Gedde Watanabe (“Sixteen Candles”) are also featured, with cameo vignettes by Jane Seymour, Shelley Long, Paula Poundstone, Jay Leno and Branford Marsalis. The program will air nationally in September during PBS’ “Back to School Week.”
