VALLEY-AREA ROUNDUP : Notre Dame Falls, 2-0, but Lands in Tournament Final

Notre Dame High allowed two unearned runs in the sixth inning and lost, 2-0, to Bishop Montgomery in a St. Paul tournament game on Monday at Sherman Oaks.

Despite the loss in pool play, the Knights (11-3) will play in the tournament championship at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cal State Los Angeles. The opponent has not been determined.

Bishop Montgomery (4-11), which lost twice to Notre Dame in Mission League games earlier this season, scored on a two-out, two-run single by Ed Trejo in a sixth inning prolonged by shortstop Ryan Stromsborg’s error.

Rich Igou (2-1), making his first start of the season, pitched a four-hitter for Notre Dame. Igou, a left-hander, has pitched 23 innings without allowing an earned run.

In other high school baseball games:

Crespi 16, Cantwell-Sacred Heart 1--Jorvic Salazar (4-0) pitched the Celts (12-2) to a victory in a St. Paul tournament game called because of the 10-run rule after five innings.

Chaminade 15, Murphy 0--Brian Powers had four hits and three runs batted in and freshman Jason Giovannettone also had four hits for the Eagles (6-9) in pool play of the St. Paul tournament.

Freshman Gabe Crecion (1-3) struck out seven in six innings, earning his first varsity victory.

Bell-Jeff 13, Salesian 7--Freshman catcher Mark Dodd singled home two runs to give the Guards (4-9) an 8-7 lead in the fifth inning of a St. Paul tournament game.

Dodd was two for three with three RBIs and first baseman Will Barnett added four RBIs.

Pius X 9, St. Genevieve 0--Andrew Gaitan got the only hit for the Valiants (2-9) in the sixth inning of a St. Paul tournament pool play game. St. Genevieve will play St. Anthony in a consolation game at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Pius X.
