Ambassador to Offer 30 Subscription Series in ‘93-94

The 1993-94 concert season at Ambassador Auditorium features more than 100 artists and ensembles on 30 subscription series. The 19th annual season at the Pasadena hall opens Sept. 19 with a recital by bass James Morris.
That is the first event of the Stars of Opera series, which continues with soprano June Anderson (Oct. 27), mezzo Frederica von Stade (Nov. 17), tenor Hans Peter Blochwitz (Feb. 5) and mezzo Cecilia Bartoli (March 9).
Two Great Performers series combine to bring pianist Andre Watts and friends (Oct. 14), pianist Peter Serkin and violinist Pamela Frank (Nov. 6), singer Mel Torme (Jan. 19), flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal (Feb. 6), pianist Ivo Pogorelich (March 16), guitarist John Williams (March 23), soprano Leontyne Price (April 7) and actress Claire Bloom in “Women in Love” (April 23).
Pogorelich also offers a recital on the Piano series, (March 17). Other recitals on that series are by Joaquin Achucarro (Sept. 23), Andrea Lucchesini (Nov. 10), Barry Douglas (Feb. 3), Pascal Roge (Feb. 23), Benedetto Lupo (April 6), Janina Fialkowska (April 20) and Andre Watts (May 12).
The Guarneri String Quartet (Nov. 13), I Musici (Jan. 26), Juilliard String Quartet (Feb. 9) and the Beaux Arts Trio (April 13) appear on the Chamber Music series. The Guitar series lists Carlos Barbosa-Lima (Nov. 3), Juan Serrano (Nov. 21), Guitar Summit (Mar. 2), John Williams (March 24) and the Romeros (May 25).
Twelve concerts by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra come in four series. There will also be a Brass Band Jubilee, a Festival of Early Music, Footlight, Ragtime and Ambassador Pops series, a Country Festival, Big Band Era and Sounds of Genius jazz series, and six travel films.
Royal Regiments on Parade (Nov. 7), the Yakut Dance Company of Siberia (Feb. 6) and the Peking Acrobats (Feb. 13) will be presented on a pops series at Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
The Gold Medal concerts list 12 events, beginning Oct. 18 with pianist Maxim Mogilevsky. Four non-subscription concerts--Operetta-in-Concert performing Lehar’s “The Count of Luxembourg” (Jan. 16), Laureates of the Holland Music Sessions (April 11), Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra (April 25) and Karl Haas (June 12)--complete the season.
