NHL ROUNDUP : North Stars Are Defeated; Final Game at Minnesota?

Ed Belfour made 33 saves Tuesday night as the Chicago Blackhawks gained a 3-2 victory over the North Stars, who are in danger of missing the playoffs and might have played their final game in Minnesota.

The North Stars, who are moving to Dallas next season, took another loss at Bloomington, Minn.

The North Stars are one point behind St. Louis and can make the playoffs only by winning at Detroit in Thursday’s regular-season finale while the Blues either lose or tie against Tampa Bay at St. Louis.

Tampa Bay 5, Winnipeg 3--Mikael Andersson scored three goals, earning his first career hat trick, to lead the Lightning at Winnipeg.

Rookie Teemu Selanne drew an assist to tie the Jets’ team record for points in a season.

Selanne has 130 points in 83 games, a total matched only by Dale Hawerchuk eight years ago during an 80-game season.

N.Y Islanders 3, Hartford 3--Pat Verbeek’s second goal of the game midway through the second period gave the Whalers the victory at Uniondale, N.Y.

Montreal 3, Buffalo 2--Brian Bellows scored the game-tying goal late in the third period and then got the winner in overtime to give the Canadiens a victory at Buffalo.

Quebec 6, Ottawa 2--Owen Nolan scored two goals and assisted on three more as the Nordiques earned a win at Quebec City.

The Senators lost their 40th road game of the season to establish an all-time NHL mark. The old record was 39, by the expansion Washington Capitals during the 1974-75 season.

Toronto 2, St. Louis 1--Peter Zezel scored 1:46 into overtime at Toronto, giving the Maple Leafs a club record-tying 25th home-ice victory.

Calgary 4, Edmonton 2--Brenton Ashton and Robert Reichel each scored two goals to lead the playoff-bound Flames to a win over the Oilers at Edmonton.
