The other court case the world is watching: A lawsuit filed against TV host Robin Leach (“Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous”) by a former live-in lover was scheduled to go to trial in L.A. Wednesday.

Alas, the suspense continues to mount.

The proceeding was postponed for two weeks because Leach is out of town. Retired actress Judith Leford alleges, among other things, that she put down half of the $10,000 down payment on the couple’s $786,000 Hollywood Hills home. Lifestyles of the leveraged!

The peanut man only rings twice: Dodger Stadium’s most consistent performer in recent years isn’t on the baseball team. He’s the behind-the-back peanut-thrower in the loge section--Roger Owens, a 35-year veteran who has made three appearances on “The Tonight Show.”

Though the Dodgers’ season ticket sales dropped after their disastrous 1992 campaign, Owens’ season peanut orders are up.

“I’ve got 12 now--about $1,500 in prepayment sales,” Owens said. “What they do is tell me their seat numbers and pay me in advance for two double bags per game for the season, 81 games. “I have to put others on the waiting list because it’s pretty time-consuming handling 12. I have to keep checking back to make sure they get their peanuts. Sometimes they’re not in their seats--they’re in the restrooms or the food lines or they’re late for the game.”

And, Owens was too diplomatic to say, there are the fans who feel that they must depart after seven innings.

List of the Day: Together at last--actor Cheech Marin, star of such counterculture hits as “Up in Smoke,” and the more conservative Charlton Heston (“The Ten Commandments,” etc.).

They won’t exactly be on the same stage, though. Each is participating in the L.A. Library’s “Night (and Day) of a Thousand Stars” next Wednesday, during which celebs will give readings in area branches to promote the cause of literacy. Some of the scheduled performances:

* Heston, Eagle Rock branch, 7 p.m.

* Marin, Woodland Hills branch, 7 p.m.

* Gayle Wilson, wife of the governor, Central Library, 10:30 a.m.

* Olympic boxing champ Paul Gonzales, Benjamin Franklin branch, Boyle Heights, 4 p.m.

* Actor Arte Johnson (of TV’s “Laugh-In”), West L.A. regional branch, 7 p.m.

Imagine the size of the doghouse: We’re honored to report that Only in L.A. has been credited by the May Harper’s Index. The magazine extracted one statistic from our exhaustive study of city Animal Regulation Department figures and came up with this item:

“Number of registered dogs in Los Angeles named Aaron Spelling: 1.”

Mysterious trio: “What does this ‘universal sign’ mean?” asks Paul Cate, who snapped the accompanying photo outside an electronics store in a San Pedro shopping center. “Three men, no baby? Tinker to Evers to Chance? The Tomb of the Three Stooges?”

Don’t ask us. Our area of expertise is dog names.

The May Harper’s Index also includes this stat on one famous Southern Californian: “Number of portraits of Zsa Zsa Gabor on display in her homes: 15.”
