Share

Four Simi Valley businesses and a high school club are being recognized by the city for commitment to reducing the amount of trash dumped at local landfills by recycling, officials said.

The businesses, winners of the city’s second annual “WasteWatch” awards, will be presented with plaques and window decals at the City Council’s April 26 meeting, said Joe Hreha, a deputy director in the city’s Environmental Services Department.

“It’s to recognize businesses that have made achievements in the area of recycling,” Hreha said of the awards. “It also helps us disseminate information to other businesses about recycling and how important is it.”

“We’re thrilled to win,” said Eric Cohen, sales manager of Simi Valley Printing, which was honored for its use of recycled paper in its products. “We believe very strongly in recycling.”

The awards are sponsored by the city and the Ventura County Recycling Consortium, Hreha said. Winners will also be recognized Friday at the Business Symposium and Recycled Products Trade Fair from 8 a.m. to noon at the Thousand Oaks Library.
