BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Dayley Signed, Sent to Albuquerque

The Dodgers signed left-handed reliever Ken Dayley on Tuesday, but that doesn’t mean the club’s bullpen needs are filled. Dayley, who was released by the Toronto Blue Jays last week, was signed to a $109,000 contract and will pitch for triple-A Albuquerque.

Dayley, 34, was an effective reliever for the St. Louis Cardinals before signing with the Blue Jays as a free agent two years ago. But he did not pitch for Toronto because of vertigo and an elbow problem. He came back this spring and pitched well, then faltered in his first couple of outings and was released. Dayley says he struggled because of mechanics, not health problems.

“I liked him,” Manager Tom Lasorda said. “I always liked him when he was with the Cardinals. He had the stuff that he could pitch to right-handers as well as left-handers.”
