Money Woes Blamed in Murder-Suicide

Sheriff’s investigators believe a 50-year-old Arcadia area man, troubled by economic woes, fatally bludgeoned his 44-year-old wife and then killed himself by slashing his wrists and throat.

The bodies of Edward Holster and his wife, Heidi Marie, were discovered Monday in their home in the 9500 block of Naomi Avenue, an unincorporated area near Arcadia.

The couple’s 23-year-old son entered the home at 3:20 p.m. and found Heidi Holster in her bed with a bloody six-inch sledgehammer next to her, said Sheriff’s Detective Ron Lancaster. Edward Holster was found in the bathroom.

The motive for the apparent murder-suicide is believed to have been economic troubles, Lancaster said. Holster worked for a failing Malibu engineering firm and was not getting paid. His wife worked as a credit clerk for the Broadway department store.
