Glendora resident Richard Myer is one of the featured artists at the San Dimas Festival of Western Arts this weekend.
Two of his sculptures, top, are a bronze tribute to another cowboy artist, Charles Russell, and one depicting a young Hopi Indian girl.
Myer, working on a sculpture of a child in his studio at his home, said the hairdo of the Hopi Indian girl indicates that she is unmarried, and a turquoise necklace indicates possible wealth.
The 17th annual American Indian and Cowboy Artists Exhibition began Wednesday with the opening of a student art exhibition in the City Hall lobby.
Other events are a Western barbecue and dance tonight under a tent at the San Dimas Civic Center; a Western trading post and fine art gallery of professional works opening Friday; a pancake breakfast, an art seminar, country dancing, Indian dancers, quick-draw demonstrations and an awards banquet on Saturday, and more dance performances and an auction of fine art on Sunday.
