Employee Wounded in Holdup at Fast-Food Restaurant
Robbers jumped over the front counter of a Jack in the Box restaurant, took $200 from the cash register and then shot an employee in the legs when he couldn’t open the safe, police said.
The men, wearing black baseball caps and armed with semiautomatic handguns, walked into the restaurant at 11:27 p.m. and ordered the employee to hand over money, Police Officer Wayne Riedmann said.
After cleaning out the cash register, one of the robbers demanded money from the safe.
“The victim did not know the combination to the safe,” Riedmann said. “The suspect shot him once, and the bullet entered both of his legs.”
The robbers ran from the restaurant at 1205 W. Baker St. and remain at large.
Police would not say whether any other employees or customers were in the restaurant at the time or how seriously the employee was wounded.
