BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Wallach Gets a Rest--Almost

Share

Tim Wallach was benched Wednesday night by Dodger Manager Tom Lasorda, who says Wallach is trying too hard at the plate. He is batting .130. “I told him not to do anything--don’t pick up a bat, nothing,” Lasorda said. “I still think he still has some good baseball left in him, but he is trying too hard.”

Wallach, replaced at third base by Lenny Harris, said taking a day off has worked before. Wallach pinch-hit in the seventh inning and grounded out.

Interviews and visiting with friends have kept Wallach busy in Montreal, where he played the last 12 seasons but left with some bad feelings for Expo management.

“I didn’t know how I would feel coming back to the park, but it feels fine,” Wallach said. “I would have liked to come in with a good bat, but I’m not. I don’t know if thinking about (this trip) affected me, because I was trying to do well before I got here, or if I was thinking about doing well while I’m here, but hopefully it will turn around. Now would be a great time.”

Todd Worrell, out because of a sprained forearm, will not be ready to come off the disabled list Friday when he is eligible. Dodger therapist Pat Screnar said he did not know when Worrell would be ready, but Worrell has stopped throwing and is receiving therapy and exercise only.
