ROUNDUP : Suppan Does It All for Crespi, 13-0

Jeff Suppan pitched a two-hit shutout, struck out 15 and hit a grand slam to lead Crespi High to a 13-0 win over St. Bernard in a Mission League game Wednesday.

Suppan’s home run was his sixth for the Celts (15-2, 7-0 in league play), ranked second in The Times’ area poll. Suppan (6-1) gave up one walk and struck out the final eight batters. He went two for four with four runs batted in.

Crespi second baseman Darren McInerney went four for four and had three RBIs. The shutout was the Celts’ third in a row.

In other high school baseball games:

Chaminade 10, Loyola 4--Eagle pitcher Mike Haugh struck out nine and allowed two earned runs in five innings in a Mission League game at Loyola. Brian Powers went three for four with two RBIs for Chaminade (8-9, 3-4).

Harvard-Westlake 4, Bishop Montgomery 1--Junior southpaw Scott Garson (2-4) pitched a complete-game victory for the visiting Wolverines (4-11, 2-5) in the Mission League game. The Wolverines were led by Chris Anderson, who went two for four with two runs scored.

Thousand Oaks 3, Channel Islands 2 (eight innings)--The Lancers (13-6, 4-3 in the Marmonte League) won their seventh game in a row at Channel Islands (6-9, 3-5). With one out in the top of the eighth, center fielder Jamal Nichols doubled and advanced a base on a balk by Victor Bernal. Bernal then attempted to pick Nichols off third, but his throw went down the left-field line, allowing Nichols to score the decisive run. Clint Harris hit a solo home run--his second of the year--in the fourth to give the Lancers an early lead.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Azusa Pacific 7, The Master’s 5--Mustang Dan O’Sullivan went two for three with a home run and drove in two runs in an NAIA District 3 game at The Master’s (23-17, 12-7).

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Canyons 4, Moorpark 2--Cougar catcher Kate Stoll went two for four and drove in two runs in a Western State Conference game at Moorpark (13-12, 5-1). Melanie Howard (13-5) earned the win for Canyons (15-7, 6-1).

Antelope Valley College 1, San Bernardino Valley 0--The Marauders improved to 33-7, 10-1 in the Foothill Conference when Angie LePage scored on a throwing error by the San Bernardino pitcher.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Granada Hills d. Cleveland, 16-14, 15-5, 15-4--The Highlanders clinched the Northwest Valley Conference championship by defeating the second-place Cavaliers in a West Valley League match at Granada Hills. The Highlanders (11-0, 8-0 in conference play, 4-0 in league play) and Cleveland (9-2, 6-2, 2-2) each have two matches remaining. Jeremy Ellis had 10 blocks, and Mike DiSimone had 13 kills to pace Granada Hills.
